The Baal Shem Tov once ascended to the Heavenly realms and entered the chamber of Moshiach. He asked when Moshiach would come and he was told “When your wellsprings (the teachings of Chassidut) are spread all over the world”.
So it behooves all of us to hasten the coming of Moshiach by learning and teaching others Chassidut. Namely the study of Tanya, the book written by the Alter Rebbe, the first Chabad Rebbe who was a student of the Mezritcher Magid, the disciple of the Baal Shem Tov. The Baal Shem Tov said that the soul of the Alter Rebbe was a new soul, never before in this world. And his mission was to reveal new insights in Torah.
It took 20 years for the Alter Rebbe to comnplete the Tanya and hidden within it are answers to all the questions every soul will have until the coming of Moshiach. The Alter Rebbe wrote it with ruach hakodesh, seeing every soul that would be born until the coming of Moshiach, and every question or spiritual problem each soul would have.
It is a holy book and in fact it brings protection simply to keep a Tanya in one’s car or when one travels.
So may we all learn Tanya and Chassidut and delve into the mystical realm of Torah. This is how we prepare for the Moshiach.
We just commemorated the hilloula of the Alter Rebbe, Chaf Daled Tevet. On the day of a hilloula (yahrtzeit) of a tzadik, all the work that he strove for his entire life is elevated and brings salvation in the midst of the earth. We know the Alter Rebbe worked with tremendous self sacrifice to bring us the Tanya and certainly on the day of his hilloula he brings down tremendous salvation for all of us. He showed us the way to bring Moshiach: through learning penimiyut haTorah. May we learn the Tanya, apply it to our daily lives and internalize it. And may we very soon merit the coming of Moshiach, may it be with mercy.
