This past week has been filled with sorrow and shock over the horrendous murders of Ariel and Kefir Bibas and their mother Shiri. There are no words, only tears that keep flowing.
We are soon entering the Hebrew month of Adar, the month where the Jewish nation’s mazal is strong.
It is the month where we are told to eradicate Amalek, the nation that hated us and still exists from generation to generation. Certainly the evil terrorists in gaza are part of Amalek. In Adar we have a special mitzva to hear the reading of the Torah the Shabbat before Purim and in that Torah reading we are told to “remember what Amalek did to you “ and to eradicate Amalek from the face of the earth. There is no better time to destroy Amalek than the month of Adar.
Certainly the terrorists in Gaza do not allow us to forget what Amalek did: how can we forget the extent of their evil ? What so called “human being” would burn babies alive, stick a little baby into a hot oven to “ cook”, gauge out the eyes of a father in front of his young son, tie families together and burn them alive, rape women and execute them (DO NOT FORGET OCTOBER 7)….which “human being” would kidnap and murder a young mother and her two young sons without feeling a drop of pity? (DO NOT FORGET THE INNOCENT BIBAS FAMILY)
When the Jewish people first encountered Amalek when we left Egypt, they had just expressed doubt , asking if Hashem is among them or not. Right away they were attacked by Amalek, a cruel nation who had no pity on them. And all subsequent descendants of Amalek have the same cruelty, sewing doubt in the minds of people. Amalek, by gematria, equals the Hebrew word “safek”, which means doubt. So Amalek is that little voice of doubt within which erodes our complete trust in God. We need to eradicate any doubt and destroy Amalek. AND WE CERTAINLY NEED TO ERADICATE HAMAS AND ALL THE TERRORISTS WHO ARE THE PERSONIFICATION OF PURE EVIL.
Remember what Amalek did to you on the road, on your way out of Egypt. That he encountered you on the way and cut off those lagging to your rear, when you were tired and exhausted; he did not fear G‑d. And it shall come to pass, when the L‑rd your G‑d has given you rest from all your enemies round about, in the land which the L‑rd your G‑d is giving you for an inheritance to possess it, that you shall obliterate the memory of Amalek from under the heavens. Do not forget.
